Metro is recruiting for our Committee on Racial Equity

Positions open on the Metro Committee on Racial Equity

Do you have lived or professional experience breaking down barriers that keep people of color from thriving in greater Portland?

 

If so, we need you. Metro is recruiting multiple seats for the Committee on Racial Equity. The committee helps Metro decision-makers center communities of color in the development of new policies, programs, and investments. Its members advise on issues spanning housing, transportation, land use, waste management, and other areas.

 

The committee’s goals are to increase the access that people of color have to Metro’s spaces and services and to keep Metro accountable to its Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Adopted in 2016, the Strategic Plan seeks to address obstacles that keep people of color from achieving equitable outcomes in areas where Metro has control and influence.

 

There are many benefits to being a CORE member. For example, you’ll receive a stipend for doing work that makes a real difference for people of color, and free childcare and catering are provided at all committee meetings. But perhaps most significantly, you’ll have the chance to forge relationships with other community leaders, like co-chairs Dele Oyemaja, from the Training Partnership at SEIU 503, and Accessibility Specialist Patricia Kepler from Portland Community College.
