An Evening with Poet Laureate Elizabeth Woody

Elizabeth Woody was named Oregon’s 8th poet laureate in May 2016. She is the first Native American to hold the title. Woody was born in Arizona on the Navajo Nation reservation. She is also a member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and has lived in Oregon for much of her life. Her first book of poetry, Hand Into Stone, won a 1990 American Book Award, and she received the William Stafford Memorial Award for Poetry in 1995. She also writes short fiction and essays, and she is a visual artist.
